STP Card: The Straniero Temporaneamente Presente, or Foreigner Temporarily Present, card is valid for 6 months, can be renewed, and is issued free of charge for non-EU/non-resident individuals who do not have legal immigration status. It can be obtained through a hospital at the time of an emergency visit, or in advance through any Local Health Authority (ASL) office. The STP card covers the following services:
* Urgent treatments that cannot be postponed without danger of life or damage to the health of the person
* Essential treatments that are related to non-dangerous diseases in the short-term, but could eventually create health problems or be life-threatening
* Continuous treatments that allow for treatments for longer periods
