The late-night host traveled in October to Kyiv and interviewed Zelenskyy in the safest part of the city — a subway platform 300 feet below ground.

"We are all here defending our independence, our country. Our truth is that it's our land, our country, our children. And we will defend all of this," Zelenskyy says in a 90-second clip on Netflix's Youtube channel.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine in what it called a "special operation" to degrade its southern neighbour's military capabilities and root out people it called dangerous nationalists. Kyiv rejects this justification.

Letterman's Netflix show "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" has 22 episodes featuring talks with former President Barack Obama, rapper Jay-Z and singer Billie Eilish.

Netflix has been spending heavily to produce and acquire content as it races to dominate streaming television and beat competition from traditional media.

Letterman left his job as host of “The Late Show” in 2015, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family after more than 30 years on late night television.

He announced he was returning to television in 2017 with his show on Netflix.
