Smith sticks it to the feds on gun rights
This week on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel explains Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s positive take on the federal government’s wasteful $42 million gun buyback program which has yet to confiscate a single gun.
Also on the show, Rachel has an update on the axe the tax protest which has been ongoing for a week and an Alberta MLA is facing criticism from a prominent Jewish organization over her anti-Israel commentary.
Finally, Smith said there’s a “worrying trend” of prescription opioids seeping into the illegal market.

On C2C: Trudeau’s housing advocate cries racism
In a recent essay, C2C Journal senior features editor Peter Shawn Taylor argues that despite claims of racism in Canada’s housing market, credible evidence suggests otherwise, with studies showing significant variations in housing outcomes among racial groups but no evidence of systemic racism. Taylor joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

Foreigners voting “compliant with Liberal Party’s rules”
As the foreign interference inquiry continues, the Liberal party doesn’t seem to have an issue with international students, who aren’t citizens or even reside in Canada most of the time, voting in its nomination races. In fact, bussing foreigners to voting stations is “compliant with the Liberal party’s rules.”
Plus, as Canadians gathered over the weekend the celebrate Easter, one of the most important dates for Christians, the Left tried its best to cancel the holiday. While Veteran Affairs Canada wished Canadians a happy “March Holiday Season,” some leftists went as far as trying to replace Easter with “Transgender Day of Visibility.”
And to end of on a rather unusual note, the president of Botswana has threatened to send 20,000 elephants to Germany in a dispute over conservation.

Canadians say they can’t afford Trudeau’s carbon tax
On April 1, Canadians across the country protested the Trudeau government’s carbon tax and its 23% increase, which comes amidst an unprecedented cost of living crisis. To make matters worse, while taxes are going up for Canadians, so are the salaries of Members of Parliament and the Prime Minister.
True North’s Elie Cantin-Nantel attended the anti-carbon tax protest in front of Parliament Hill in Ottawa to speak with attendees.

Justin Trudeau ADMITS FAILURE on Mass Immigration!
Justin Trudeau told the media on Monday that Canada has taken in too many temporary immigrants for the country to handle. That's interesting...what happened? Just a few months ago, Trudeau was steadfastly defending his mass immigration agenda.
The reality is, Canada is embarking down a path of irreversible mass immigration that is having disastrous consequences for Canadians. Meanwhile, nobody is addressing Canada's plummeting birthrates. If Canada wants to preserve Canadian culture and values, we need to address the country's low birth rates. Solving demographic problems shouldn't be solely dependent on immigration.

NDP MPs are bailing
Three NDP MPs – including longtime party stalwart Charlie Angus – have announced today they aren't seeking re-election, with Angus acknowledging the beginning of a new "political era." True North's Andrew Lawton says it's no surprise, as the latest polling shows Conservatives could make serious gains even in NDP ridings, including Angus'.
The public inquiry into foreign interference is underway, vindicating past reporting that the Liberals were the beneficiary of assistance from the Chinese regime. Former Conservative MP Kenny Chiu joins to discuss.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has conceded that a "massive spike" in temporary residents in Canada has been "far beyond" what the country can absorb, but his former immigration minister, Sean Fraser, says the federal government isn't to blame for this, but rather businesses that have made use of temporary foreign workers. Trudeau's about-face on immigration has left an opening for a real conservation about the issue in the next election – but will political leaders have the courage to have one? Macdonald-Laurier Institute researcher Joe Adam George joins to discuss.

Anti-carbon tax protesters frustrated with Smith
A national protest to scrap the federal carbon tax began on Monday as the Trudeau government increased the tax once again. As thousands of Canadians across the country took part in the protest earlier this week, Albertans took it to another level. Event organizers across various Alberta locations told True North that protesters are prepared to stay for weeks and even managed to slow down traffic considerably.
However, protesters are increasingly frustrated with Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who said on Tuesday that she doesn’t support carbon tax protesters stopping the flow of traffic.
Should Smith be more supportive of the carbon tax protesters and even attend one of the demonstrations? What do you think?

Trudeau admits he's bungled the immigration file
Justin Trudeau has said what many Canadians had already figured out – that his government's record on immigration has led to a "massive spike" that is "far beyond what Canada has been able to absorb." The Conservatives have yet to provide their own target for immigration, except to say that it needs to be tied to housing, jobs, and healthcare. True North's Andrew Lawton says Trudeau's flip flop is no accident.
Also, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith calls the federal government's failure to confiscate a single gun four years after announcing its "buyback" program a great success for Albertans and gun owners. Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights CEO Rod Giltaca joins the show to weigh in.
Plus, Canadian soldiers have been relying on food banks with increasing frequency – prompting questions about whose who put on a uniform to serve Canada are treated by their country. Veteran and author Tom Marazzo weighs in.

This is NOT how a FREE PRESS should operate
Has Canada’s legacy media given up on pretending to be objective and neutral? It sure appears that way.
Last week, the Toronto Star published propaganda created by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office and the Canadian Press was caught quoting a major Liberal party donor and supporter without disclosing his partisan background and attempting to pass it off as “journalism.”
True North’s Candice Malcolm says Canada’s is bought and paid for by the Liberal government and have completely compromised their ability to publish objective, fact-based, and honest reporting.

Trudeau made life more expensive yesterday
Thousands of Canadians gathered across the country yesterday to protest the latest hike to the carbon tax. This increase makes almost everything more expensive while Canadians are already grappling with a rising cost of living, but the federal government has been unflinching. Justin Trudeau says premiers are to blame for making "political hay" instead of coming up with their own alternative carbon taxes. Andrew discusses with Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims.
Also, Veterans Affairs Canada is getting dragged for wishing Canadians a happy "March holiday season" on Easter weekend.
Plus, the federal government's official housing advocate says Canada's housing market is rife with racism and white supremacy. A new essay from C2C journal says this isn't the case. Author Peter Shawn Taylor joins to explain why.

Trudeau advisor calls concerns over Online Harms bill “rage farming”
A recent column in the Toronto Star, written by a senior advisor to Justin Trudeau, claims that critics are attempting to misconstrue the Online Harms Act as an assault on online freedom of expression. Canadian Constitution Foundation litigation director Christine Van Geyn joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to refute the claim, and explain why the Online Harms Act should concern all Canadians.

Is Trudeau being honest about his climate policy?
In a recent column, University of Guelph economics professor Ross McKitrick argues that despite Trudeau’s advocacy for a market-based solution like the carbon tax to address greenhouse gas emissions, there is a discrepancy between his rhetoric and his government’s heavy-handed regulatory approach outlined in the Emission Reduction Plan. McKitrick joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

Liberal bill would give MPs tens of millions in extra pensions
Last week, Dominic LeBlanc introduced an amendment to the Elections Act, potentially enabling around 80 MPs to qualify for a House of Commons pension. According to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, this delay would result in tens of millions in additional costs for taxpayers. Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss.

Gamer Gate 2.0 is out of control
Gamer Gate is back and it is already out of control.
Modern video games are awful and have become unplayable because of diversity, equity and inclusion ideology taking over games. Gamers have started to push back on developers who are ruining their favourite titles and the reaction from the industry is hardly surprising.
According to one BBC gaming presenter, there needs to be a "final purge" of all those who don't align with the divisive DEI ideology.

Trudeau's team doing damage control on online censorship bill
As the Liberal government faces criticism over its so-called online harms bill, an adviser to Justin Trudeau has written an op-ed defending the bill and calling concerns about its effect on free speech "rage farming." True North's Andrew Lawton sets the record straight, then speaks with Canadian Constitution Foundation litigation director Christine Van Geyn about why people should be worried about the bill.
Also, April 1 is proving to be a pivotal day for Canadian taxpayers – the carbon tax increase, a pay raise for members of Parliament, and even a hike to the alcohol tax. Perhaps this is why so many Canadians are poised to protest across the country on Monday. Franco Terrazzano, federal director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, joins to navigate through it all.

Chestermere responds "We definitely like Mayor Colvin"
This week on the Alberta Roundup with Rachel Emmanuel, Rachel interviews Chestermere residents to see how they feel about their mayor, three councillors, and three CAO’s being dismissed by Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver.
McIver has said the city was being governed in an improper, irregular and improvident manner. He has ordered a financial inspection of the city’s books and the city is currently being run by an interim administrator.
The dismissed mayor and councillors allege the province began investigating their council after they found irregular spending patterns in Chestermere’s books. They also say city staff deleted emails and weren’t forthcoming with requested information.
City residents say they have concerns about corruption and want the mayor and the councillors reinstated.

Liberal MP compares Poilievre to Nazis – again
Liberal member of Parliament has once again apologized for comparing Pierre Poilievre to Nazis, after previously apologizing for comparing Poilievre to Nazis. The apology rings hollow when it's clear Hardie actually views the Conservatives this way, True North's Andrew Lawton says.
Also, the federal government continues to defend its carbon tax – which is set to increase once again on Monday. Economics professor Ross McKitrick says Canada needs a leader who will be honest about climate policy.
Plus, a new poll shows Canadians want "major changes" to the healthcare system, yet reform is always treated like a third rail in Canadian politics. Lawyer Josh Dehaas from the Canadian Constitution Foundation joins to discuss.

Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives are leading a BLUE WAVE across Canada
Conservatives are surging in the polls across the country. Not only are Poilievre’s Conservatives in firm majority territory but even provincial Conservative parties are becoming increasingly popular.
According to the most recent polls, if an election were held today, Poilievre would win a sweeping majority, and Justin Trudeau’s Liberals would be relegated to 3rd or possibly even 4th place – behind the Bloc Quebecois and neck and neck with the NDP.
But there won’t be an election anytime soon. Why? Because NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh wouldn’t dare trigger an election until he becomes eligible for his golden pension – in 2025.
The Libs are cooking up a new scheme to ensure that even more of their MPs become eligible for the multi-million dollar, taxpayer-funded life-long pension.
On today’s episode of the Candice Malcolm Show, Candice is joined by pollster and Conservative insider Hamish Marshall. They discuss political trends, proposed changes to the Election Act, the problems with mail-in ballots and voter fraud.
They also talk about British Columbia politics, where a seismic shift has seen the BC Conservatives surge from obscurity to contender in the upcoming October provincial election.
Tune in to get the inside scoop!

Liberals have spent $42 million on gun "buyback" without getting a single gun
The gun "buyback" the Liberals announced four years ago, which was supposed to be completed by 2022, has so far racked up $42 million in costs without even confiscating a single gun. Even so, the government is still committed to this approach, which is squarely aimed at registered and legally-owned firearms, and not those overwhelmingly used in gun crime. True North's Andrew Lawton says it's bad news for taxpayers, but good news for lawful gun owners.
Also, a new study from the Fraser Institute shows that government spending and public sector employment are on the rise in almost all provinces – meaning government is getting bigger and bigger with no end in sight. Andrew unpacks the numbers with Jake Fuss, the Fraser Institute's fiscal studies director.
Plus, city councillors in the British Columbia city of Quesnel have condemned the mayor's wife for, as a private citizen, distributing copies of the True North-published book "Grave Error," a scholarly work pushing back at the mainstream narrative on residential schools. One of the co-editors, Professor Tom Flanagan, joins the show to discuss.
