Beyerdynamic PRO X Headphones and Microphones — DT 700 PRO X, DT 900 PRO X, M 70, and M 90 PRO X
In this episode, we have a look at the new PRO X line of headphones and microphones from Beyerdynamic. I’ve owned the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 ohm headphones for over 12 years and also had the DT 880 Pro 250 ohm headphones for nearly as long. The new DT 700 and DT 900 PRO X headphones raise the bar further with newly designed drives rated at 48 ohms, along with replaceable cables, ear pads, and headband cushions. And all this while still having one fo the most comfortable fits I’ve ever experienced in headphones.
They also added two new microphones: The M 70 PRO X which is a dynamic broadcast style microphone and the M 90 PRO X, a large diaphragm condenser microphone with a sound signature I really like.
The headphones come in at $299 USD. The M 70 comes in at $299 USD while the M 90 PRO X comes in at $349 USD at the time of this review.
You can hear the difference between the Beyerdynamic M 90 PRO X and one of my favorite live-stream microphones, the Earthworks SR314: https://youtu.be/7Ndxt71B3R8?t=436

Why Do Pros Use Gear Like the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna?
Why do professional sound mixers use antennae like the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna? In this episode, we talk about wireless microphone antenna basics and demonstrate how the Diversity Fin extended the range of the Audio Ltd. A10 wireless system by about 25 meters when recording outdoors in a wide open space.
I purchased all of this equipment myself and no companies or anyone else has paid me to make this video.

Izotope RX Phase — Fix Uneven or Asymmetric Audio Waveforms
Have you ever found that your audio waveforms are uneven or asymmetric — where the top of the waveform hits a much higher peak level than the bottom of the waveform? Or vice versa? And, is it a problem when it does? It turns out that this sometimes happens, especially with some men’s voices. And the problem is that you just aren’t left with enough headroom to boost or normalize the sound levels for your online videos or podcasts. In this episode, we show how you can use Izotope RX’s phase plugin to fix this issue. This will allow you to boost your sound levels without clipping or distorting.
The Phase plugin is available in RX Elements, Standard, and Advanced. See link for Izotope RX below.

Izotope RX De-click & Mouth De-click Demo
The Izotope RX De-click and Mouth De-click modules/plugins are helpful tools in managing mouth clicks, pops, and saliva noise in spoken word audio. In this episode, we demonstrate where, when, and how to use each of them.
The De-click plugin is available in RX Elements, Standard, and Advanced while the Mouth De-click plugin is only available in the Standard and Advanced versions of RX.
Mouth De-click is generally less aggressive and can be used to remove saliva noise and clicks within dialogue audio. The De-Click plugin is more aggressive and I usually only use it when I can select just the mouth click I want to remove.
Special thanks to Paul Figgiani who provided valuable insights on how best to use the De-click and Mouth De-click plugins.

Leveling Dialogue Audio with Izotope RX or any other Leveling Plugin
In this episode, we demonstrate how to use a leveler to even out audio levels between two different people recorded on a single microphone. We do this particular demonstration in Izotope RX, but the same principles apply to other apps and plugins. Adobe Audition, for example, has a similar leveler plugin.

Compression for Dialogue Audio - Presets for Video Editors - Quick and Dirty
Are you a video editor and cannot or will not round-trip your audio over to an audio editing app to compress and even out your sound? If so, here’s a quick and dirty way to use a compressor and adjust two quick settings to get your audio sounding consistent and loud enough. Not my first recommendation, but works in a pinch for videos that aren’t that precious or important.
Here’s how I’d really work on audio loudness when the sound really matters: https://youtu.be/lHNhxGojFRU
If you’d like to learn how to make great dialogue audio for your film and video projects, please have a look at my courses at https://school.learnlightandsound.com including processing dialogue audio in Adobe Audition and DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight, recording sound, how to use the Zoom F4, F6, F8, and F8n, and how to get the most from the Sound Devices MixPre series of recorders. Our latest course is Sound for Live Streaming with the ATEM Mini.

Setting Audio Levels for Multi Person Livestreams Using a Loudness Meter - Youlean
Have you ever hosted a livestream with remote guests on a service like Streamyard, and then learned in horror from your audience that they can barely hear one person while another person is super loud?
In this episode, we have a look at one way to set your audio levels when you have multiple participants in a livestream on services like Streamyard, Restream.io, Riverside.fm, and other cloud based streaming services. Instead of using simple peak meters, we demonstrate how to use a loudness meter which is much better at getting everyone’s audio levels to the same target so that your audience can focus on the stream.
