The Speed Freak Killers is the name given to serial killer duo Loren Herzog and Wesley Shermantine, together initially convicted of four murders — three jointly — in and around San Joaquin County, California. They received the "speed freak" moniker due to their methamphetamine abuse. Herzog committed suicide in 2012

The picture was taken on Burgh Marsh, situated near Burgh by Sands, overlooking the Solway Firth in Cumberland, England. 5) Japans Slit Mouthed Woman The legend commences with a stunning woman, who was married to a samurai. But beware, looks can be deceiving—she was very vain and one day, went as far as cheating on her Samurai husband. When he found out about the affair, he grew very enraged and slit her mouth from ear to ear, giving her a Glasgow smile (which is a smile caused by wounds cutting from ear to ear). Following this savage action, he asked, “Who will think you’re pretty now?” Although the original tale is a cautionary one to remind people to stay faithful, the story takes a gruesome turn.

Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, 24, from Denmark, and Maren Ueland, 28, from Norway, were found beheaded in the High Atlas mountains in December. The Wineville Chicken Coop murders, also known as the Wineville Chicken murders, were a series of abductions and murders of young boys that occurred in the city of Los Angeles and in Riverside County, California between 1926 and 1929.

Elin Krantz was a Swedish 27-year-old woman who was murdered in the Biskopsgården district of Gothenburg on 26 September 2010. Krantz was murdered by Ephrem Yohannes, a 23-year-old Ethiopian immigrant, in Biskopsgården where her body was found. She was used as a poster child for everything wrong with the lefts views in Sweden arguing for an open border, especially with her passionate views on letting everyone in Sweden. Yohannes was found guilty of Krantz's murder and received a 16-year prison sentence and deportation on release.

The 1999 London nail bombings were a series of bomb explosions in London, England. Over three successive weekends between 17 and 30 April 1999, homemade nail bombs were detonated in Brixton in South London; at Brick Lane, Spitalfields, in the East End; and at The Admiral Duncan pub a homosexual pub in Soho in the West End. Each bomb contained up to 1,500 4-inch (100 mm) nails, in holdalls that were left in public spaces. The bombs killed three people and injured 140 people, four of whom lost limbs. On 2 May 1999, the Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist Branch charged 22-year-old David Copeland with murder. Copeland, who became known as the "London nail bomber", was a Neo-Nazi militant and a former member of two political groups, the British National Party and then the National Socialist Movement. The bombings were aimed at London's black, Bengali and LGBT communities. Copeland was convicted of murder in 2000 and given six life sentences.

In May of 1982 in Mississauga Ontario a brutal murder took place and no one will ever know what happened except the killer and his victim.

One of Cincinnati’s most notorious cold cases remains unsolved more than 50 years later. On September 25, 1966, Jerry Bricca was last seen taking out the trash at his family home on Greenway Avenue on the city’s West Side. Two days later, neighbors noticed papers had been piling up at the home, and thought it seemed suspicious. Detectives were notified and responded to the house where they found Gerry, his 23-year-old wife Linda and the couple’s four-year-old daughter Debbie, dead. “They investigators decided the killer knew the family. No forced entry, no defensive wounds, no signs of a struggle, two very aggressive dogs were neutralized,” and yet to this day over 55 years later they still have no clues and the crime remains unsolved.

Dian Harlin was married to a quirky fisherman named Hugh Harlin and they lived in Morro Bay, California. They were both known locally as eccentric, but their relationships with others differed. He was somewhat sociable with others and enjoyed his work as a fisherman and tinker, whereas she maintained few social contacts, and had become known in social circles as the "Dog Lady" due to the gossip. According to him, she cared more about her dogs than she did for him. Hugh and Dian where known locally to have a stormy marriage, with her squandering his meager income and doing things to intentionally enrage him. She often used his money and spent it on her dogs, her friends, and even beggars. Sometimes, she would serve him dog food for dinner. According to one rumor, she even baked it into a casserole for him. On October 13, 1982, the badly-decomposed body of a woman was found just off the beach at Morro Bay. She had been strangled with a dog leash. A jade bracelet and a silver bracelet were found nearby. At first, she could not be identified, so a description of her was released to the public. A friend urged Hugh to go to the police, believing that she was Dian. But this take would take on an even , more bizarre twist. The Keddie murders are an unsolved quadruple homicide which took place over the night of April 11–12, 1981, in Keddie, California, United States. The victims were Glenna Susan "Sue" Sharp; daughter Tina Louise Sharp; son, John Steven Sharp; and John's friend, Dana Hall Wingate.

A New York parole board has granted parole to the state’s longest-serving inmate in the state’s prison system. James Moore pled guilty to 1st degree murder after 14-year-old Pamela Moss of Penfield was raped and murdered in 1962. Moore had agreed to spend the rest of his life in prison to avoid the death penalty, an arrangement Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said the victim’s family agreed to so that they would be assured that Moore would never live outside of prison again. But a decade later, Doorley said that changes in state law allowed him to go before the Parole Board, which he has done more than 20 times before being granted parole recently. In a statement released Tuesday, Doorley noted that according to Moore's confession, the last thing that Moss said was "please..."

On 26 June 2022, Zara Aleena was raped and murdered in the front yard of a home as she was walking home in in London England. The murder attracted attention after it was discovered the killer Jordon McSweeney had committed numerous other offences and should have been recalled to prison. Around 2am on 26 June, Aleena left a bar on Ilford High Street close to Ilford railway station and began walking towards her home. At the same time, McSweeney had been thrown out of a bar for harassing staff and had subsequently approached several other women. At 2:17am, Aleena was violently attacked by McSweeney. She was discovered collapsed on a driveway, struggling to breathe, and was taken to the Royal London Hospital where she died of her injuries. The murder occurred nine days after McSweeney was released from prison on licence, having being jailed for robbery. A subsequent report said an attempt was made to recall him to prison two days before the murder, and suggested he should not have been released in the first place. The Metropolitan Police conducted an internal review after reports were published that McSweeney had been convicted 28 times for 69 earlier offences, including nine separate spells in prison, and ought to have been recalled. McSweeney had also had a history of violence and abuse, and a restraining order was taken out against him in 2021. Concern had been raised on 22 June, four days before the murder, after McSweeney failed to show for two appointments. Two days later, the Metropolitan Police attempted to arrest him, but he was not at the address on their records. The Chief Inspector of Probation said the failure to assess McSweeney was caused by a lack of probation officers. London was highlighted as particularly problematic, with around half of posts remaining to be filled in some London boroughs. In December, McSweeney pleaded guilty to the murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum 38-year term.

Also known as the Koh Tao murders involved the death of two British tourists in Thailand in 2014. On 15 September, the bodies of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found on Sairee Beach on the island of Koh Tao, between 4 and 5 am, a few hours after their deaths. Both victims had been hit several times on the head; Witheridge had been raped, and Miller had been drowned. Two weeks later, two illegal Burmese migrant workers were blamed for the deaths, primarily on the basis of DNA evidence, and confessed following an hours-long interrogation. The suspects were initially denied access to legal counsel, and alleged that police used torture and threats to secure a confession. Pathologists and legal experts criticised the police for mishandling the evidence, allowing contamination of the crime scene and failing to use experts to collect forensic evidence. The police investigation and criminal trial were widely criticised by international media, human rights organisations, and legal experts. In December 2015, the pair were convicted of the murder and sentenced to death. Attempts to appeal the sentence failed, but a royal decree was issued by King Vajiralongkorn in 2020 commuting the death sentences to life imprisonment. The government of Thailand was concerned the murders might affect tourism to the island, with arrivals dropping in the months following the murders. However, the event did not materially affect tourism to the island over the following years.

The murder of Jacqueline Montgomery, a 15-year-old girl from Islington, North London, United Kingdom, occurred during the period of 1–2 June 1975. She was killed by Dennis McGrory, her aunt's 28-year-old estranged partner, who was described at his trial as being "wild with rage" when he sexually assaulted, stabbed and strangled Montgomery at her family home in Offord Road. Her body was discovered by her father in the early hours of 2 June on the floor of the living room of their house. McGrory was tried on circumstantial evidence in 1976, but cleared of murder. He faced trial again in 2022 under the rule of double jeopardy after swabs taken at the time of the murder were tested for his DNA and found to be a one-in-a-billion match. Following the second trial, McGrory was convicted of Montgomery's rape and murder at the Old Bailey in December 2022. His sentencing took place at Huntingdon Crown Court on 13 January 2023, at which presiding judge, Mr Justice Bryan, sentenced McGrory to life imprisonment with a minimum of 25 years. During the televised hearing, Bryan described McGrory's actions as "hideous crimes". With 47 years having passed since the 1975 murder, the case represents the longest lapse of time between a murder and a conviction in England and Wales as a result of double jeopardy.

On January 4, 2023, a familicide occurred in Enoch, Utah, United States when eight members of a single family, consisting of three adults and five children, were fatally shot in their home in a mass shooting. Authorities identified one of the adults, 42-year-old Michael Haight, as the perpetrator.

Yoo Young-Chul (Korean: 유영철, born 1970) is a self-confessed South Korean serial killer and cannibal. Although he admitted to murdering 21 people, mostly prostitutes and rich old men, the Seoul Central District Court convicted him of 20 murders (one case was dismissed on a technicality). Yoo burned 3 and mutilated at least 11 of his victims, admitting he ate the livers of some of them. He committed his crimes between September 2003 and July 2004, when he was arrested. He was sentenced to death on 13 December 2004. His case, which appalled South Koreans, has fuelled the debate on capital punishment in South Korea. Although the death penalty is still permissible under law, it has not been carried out for 6 years. It appeared capital punishment might be abolished prior to Yoo's arrest, but support for the death penalty has grown since his t. The Seoul Central District Court said: "Murders of as many as 20 people are unprecedented in the nation and a very serious crime. The death penalty is inevitable for Yoo in light of the enormous pains inflicted on the families concerned and the entire society."

Lyle Menendez (born January 10, 1968) and Erik Menendez (born November 27, 1970) are brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Menéndez. During the trial, the Menéndez brothers stated that they committed the murders in fear that their father would kill them after they threatened to expose him for years of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse, while the prosecution argued that they did it to inherit their father's multimillion-dollar estate. They were first tried separately, with one jury for each brother. Both juries deadlocked, which resulted in a mistrial. For the second trial, they were tried together by a single jury, which found them guilty, and as a result, they were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
