This is a look-back at my interview with Christopher Sharrett, Professor of Film Studies at Seton Hall University. We discussed what a film critic is, and how it differed from being a film reviewer. We spoke about how The Dark Knight brought film criticism back into focus at that time. We also discussed the stigma of the horror movies being for "idiots", and how "men don't watch horror movies". We discussed how horror movies can raise questions about the "Evil Other", how the monster can represent the hidden desires within ourselves, and how the very best horror films can make the monster sympathetic.
