Stubborn dog refuses to go on her morning walk

Poncho is a fourteen year old rescue pooch from Riviera Maya Mexico. Her owner Brent believes she is a Basenji cross. He feels she is a basenji cross from her characteristics and looks, but knows she is not pure bred as she barks, and basenjis do not actually bark, they more like howl and talk like coyotes. Having a great life in Western Canada seems to have spoiled and softened her, or maybe its her Mexican blood that causes her to not really enjoy the cold. Although it was just below freezing in Surrey British Columbia, the wind chill made it feel more like minus 5 Fahrenheit with high humidity. Generally Poncho loves her morning and evening walks around the block. These walks have progressively become shorter as the season advances, but she still likes to get out. Once her owner has readied himself for work in the mornings, Poncho will not leave him to relax until she gets her walk. Poncho is very habitual and routined, so Brent her owner knows exactly what his morning will be like. Generally its, come downstairs, get stared at by Poncho, put on her harness and leash, exit the house. When it is colder out, that first preparation is always the same, but it's the walk that changes. On the morning this was recorded, she went approximately 100 yards, and started to turn back towards home. Brent knew the reasoning, Poncho does not like the cold. Trying to get her to walk for at least 5 minutes, as you will see, began to be a game of Round the Rosy. Poncho would turn towards home, Brent would initiate a continuation of the walk, this happened over and over, as they both went in circles repeatedly. As usual, Poncho tends to win out since Brent knows she will not stop trying to end the walk, so he gives in. On warmer nights, Poncho is also very predictive, as she loves her walks, but has begun to want to run once they approach the last corner on their street, which is within 100 feet of home. Being an old dog, when she shows a little spunk and excitement, Brent likes to go with the flow and let her run, this keeps her young at heart. Enjoy Poncho and her funny antics, she is a very lovable pooch.
