A Bright Light
What does John chapter 8 mean?

The first section of this chapter describes Yahusha's(יהושע) encounter with opponents who have brought Him a woman guilty of sin. In this incident, Yahusha(יהושע) demonstrates that these men are acting hypocritically: attempting to trick Yahusha(יהושע) using the law, while they themselves are not completely following it! At the same time, Yahusha(יהושע) shows that simply having power, such as the authority to execute a guilty sinner, does not make using it the best choice. Instead, Yahusha(יהושע) demonstrates mercy and fully applies both the letter and intent of the law, as Yahuah intended: with "right judgment."

This story of the adulterous woman, however, is almost certainly not original to the gospel of John. Different manuscripts have these verses in different places, sometimes attached to the end of completely different New Testament works.
This, along with other evidence, has led scholars to believe the story of the adulterous woman to be a true, accurate description of a real event, but not one intended to be read in this exact place. So, this story is something of a side-note, and not part of Yahusha's(יהושע) actions during the Feast of Booths. Instead, the action which was interrupted after John 7:52 will resume in John 8:12.

As Yahusha(יהושע) continues to teach at the Feast of Booths, He uses another analogy related to festival rituals. In this case, it is the burning of lamps, whose wicks were made from priestly garments. Yahusha(יהושע) makes the second of His Seven "I AM" statements highlighted in the gospel of John, declaring that Yahusha(יהושע) is "The Light Of The World." This incorporates Jewish ideals of truth and knowledge, as well as professing to be the one and only source of spiritual truth.
The next part you read is important and revealing.
⚠️This sets off a debate between Yahusha(יהושע) and His most vehement opponents: the "religious leaders" of Jerusalem and their followers. John collectively refers to this faction as "The Jews" in his writing. Their stance is based on genealogy: they are the descendants of Abraham, so they claim to be favored by Yahuah.⚠️

Yahusha(יהושע), however, points out that Spiritual Relationships matter more than family lines. Since children act like their fathers, those who legitimately follow Yahuah should be obedient to His message, as Abraham was. But the men seeking to oppose Yahusha(יהושע) act more like their father the devil: they deal in lies and murder (John 8:44; John 5:18). Therefore, these men don't actually know Yahuah. In fact, they don't want to know Yahuah, since the truth is something they can't bear to hear (John 8:43).
This is why "The Jews" changed and removed His name, His Word, His Sabbaths and Feasts. Awake now? Hope so.
As the conversation continues, it will become more and more charged. Yahusha's(יהושע) critics will resort to insults, including smearing His Birth (John 8:41) and suggesting that Yahusha(יהושע) is insane (John 8:48). Yahusha(יהושע) will respond by continuing to discuss Abraham, and suggesting that He has first-hand knowledge of Abraham's response to His own ministry (John 8:56). When the crowd misunderstands, Yahusha(יהושע) explicitly claims to be Yahuah by declaring "before Abraham was, 'I am,'" using the same name Yahuah applied to Himself when speaking to Moses (John 8:58; Exodus 3:14). The reaction, as one would expect, was not only angry, but violent(sin). Yahusha's(יהושע) enemies once again try—unsuccessfully—to kill Him by stones.

John chapter 8 includes the story of the adulterous woman, a well-known but controversial passage. Most scholars believe this story is authentic, but not originally found in this exact spot in Scripture.
This chapter continues Yahusha's(יהושע) Preaching during the Feast of Booths, where He once again comes into conflict with local "religious leaders." Here, Yahusha(יהושע) will make His second ''I AM'' statement, using the analogy of LIGHT, which is a common theme in Hebrew theology. This conversation will become more and more heated. Yahusha's(יהושע) opponents are enraged enough to attempt killing Him right then and there, by stoning Him but Yahusha(יהושע) escapes away and hides.

A Bright LIGHT

Think back to Genesis 1 when Yahuah created the world, One of the first things Yahuah said
was "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3). Just
like Yahuah created LIGHT to shine upon the
earth, Yahusha(יהושע) came as The LIGHT to all mankind.

Yahusha(יהושע) says He is the light of the world. Yahusha(יהושע) also points out that LIGHT is necessary for finding your way in this world. Yahusha(יהושע) is The LIGHT that guides men and women into True Life.

Yahusha(יהושע) is not only The LIGHT that Illuminates Our path in Life, but Yahusha(יהושע) is also The One Who Illuminates the rest of the world It is by Yahusha's(יהושע) LIGHT that We can look at the rest of the world and make judgments on what is right and good.

LIGHT in the Old Testament is often a symbol
of judgment, because it is LIGHT that exposes
the darkness and evil in the hearts of
people. Yahusha(יהושע) is The True Judge who comes with the authority of Yahuah Elohaynu Our Father to Judge-the hearts of men and women (John 8:13-17).

While Yahusha(יהושע) is The True Judge of all humanity, those who follow Yahusha Ha'Mashiach(יהושע) and Believe in Yahusha's(יהושע) Resurrection have nothing to fear concerning judgment. We are no longer condemned by Our past, but through Yahusha(יהושע) We are given access to New Life In Him. (Romans 8:1)

Take a moment to thank Yahuah for shining His
LIGHT in Your Life. Because of Yahusha(יהושע), you can experience the Grace and Peace of Yahuah in Your own heart.
