Pickups Collide on 59, NEW WILLARD, May 21, 2024 - At approximately 2:10 pm on May 21, 2024, a black late model Chevy pickup (pulling a loaded trailer), driven by William Herzog, 60, of Port Lavaca, was south-bound on US-59. Herzog was in the left lane when a late model white Ford F-150 driven by Archie Lewis, 74, of Crocket, that was parked on the right shoulder, pulled onto the road directly in front of Herzog. Herzog's pickup broadsided the Lewis' pickup sending it into the center median. Herzog pulled to the right shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies Adrian Ontiveros and Keagan Newman with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Johnny Wilkerson with the Texas Highway Patrol. EMS personnel were able to safely remove Lewis from his pickup and transported him to a hospital in Lufkin. Herzog and his passenger refused medical treatment. Traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Lewis is likely facing a citation for failing to yield. Herzog's truck and trailer were recovered by Fawbush wrecker out of Goodrich while Lewis' vehicle was recovered by Kwik Tow out of Livingston.
