Bernini, The Masterpieces of the Italian Sculptor
Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598 – 1680) was an Italian sculptor and architect.
He was one of the leading figures in the Baroque art movement, known for his dramatic and emotionally charged works. Bernini's sculptures often conveyed intense motion and theatricality, capturing moments frozen in time with remarkable realism and dynamism.
Some of his most famous works include the breathtaking marble sculpture "The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa," located in the Cornaro Chapel of the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome. This masterpiece depicts the mystical experience of Saint Teresa of Ávila in a state of divine ecstasy. The sculpture is renowned for its intricate detail and the sense of movement conveyed in the figures.
A scholar said about Bernini, "What Shakespeare is to drama, Bernini may be to sculpture"
