Mount Etna blows smoke rings in rare display

Sicily’s Mount Etna has been puffing near-perfect circles, known as ‘volcanic vortex rings’. This rare phenomenon appears when gas released at high speed takes the shape of the crater. A calm atmosphere and round volcanic vent are required to form the rings.
