Harnwell: 15 Years Ago Today — “One Of The Greatest Contributions To Help Christians In Public Life”

When I worked in the European Parliament, I established a project aimed at assisting Christians in public life defend themselves from the hostile attacks of militant secularists.

The strategy was to illustrate — in terms any secularist of goodwill could not deny — that not only was the Christian faith the spiritual midwife of many of the values liberal progressives hold dear — but without the ongoing contribution of that faith, those values would disappear.

Our instrument was the “Universal Declaration of Human Dignity” — released on 8 December 2008 and publicly launched by the speaker of the European Parliament. In just two pages, it contains the essence of my political philosophy. I commend it to you.
