How China's Super Advanced Beidou Surpassed the U S GPS in Sino US Tech Competition? 中國超先進北斗如何在中美科技競賽中超越美國GPS?

The United States has been taking the strategic advantage in navigation, command, control, and munitions guidance by introducing Global Positioning System (GPS) since 1972, and it has long been the world leader in satellite-based positioning with its GPS. In 1996, during the Taiwan Strait Crisis, China fired three missiles to locations on the Taiwan Strait as a warning. While the first missile hit its intended target, the Chinese Army lost track of the other two.

China claims that the U.S. had cut off the GPS signal to the Pacific that China relied upon for missile tracking. The event prompted China to build its global navigation and positioning satellite system. In 2020, China completed its satellite navigation system named BeiDou, one of four global satellite navigation networks alongside the US GPS, Russia's GLONASS, and Galileo's E.U., Indian Constellation.

Out of these navigation systems, the GPS is the most widely used for both personal navigation and for more sensitive military purposes. Significantly, as ties between the U.S. and China deteriorate, the contest between GPS and Beidou has gradually become the focus. So, which one is more powerful, GPS or Beidou? In addition to being used in the military, Beidou system, as 'the biggest' aerospace program that China has ever undertaken, what other applications can it have in life?
