Khalistan referendum in Italy

Thousands of Sikhs from across the European Union (EU) gathered in Italian city Brescia on 8 May for Khalistan referendum to effect secession from Indian Punjab. Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) organised the referendum.

Sikhs are demanding an independent state of Khalistan for millions of Sikhs. Italy is home to more than 200,000 Sikhs.

The Sikhs movement for Khalistan has its roots in India's June 1984 military Operation Blue Star against Sikhs where thousands of Sikh pilgrims were massacred by Indian security forces.
