Griffin Armament Silencer Testing Standard™

Griffin Armament has researched and implemented a new sound suppressor testing standard to better enable consumers with dosing data. For previous decades, the standard has been to only show PEAK impulse decibel data. When Griffin asked how to show this data, Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (leading audiology metrology provider) suggested researching the US Army Development Command's Army Research Laboratory AHAAH (Auditory Hazard Assessment Algorithm for Humans), as this is a supported function in the HBK PULSE LabShop software. Griffin's new data continues to show peak decibel data, as that is the loudest part of the waveform, but also shows more details that will be of interest to consumers for years to come. This data includes: • Peak dB sound pressure level reading. • LAeq A-weighted Equivalent Continuous Sound Pressure Level (average A weighted dB sound pressure for the waveform over the defined time in milliseconds). • Leq Unweighted Equivalent Continuous Sound Pressure Level (average unweighted dB sound pressure for the waveform over the defined time in milliseconds). • Number of exposures with no protector worn, "warned" (how many gun shots would be safe to fire or be in the immediate vicinity of, daily and weekly, for an anticipating observer) applying to 95% of the exposed population. • Source document of waveform graphic and table. • Descriptive summary of testing. Griffin Armament® puts the Allen Engineering™ AEM 5 up against the Griffin DUAL-LOK™ PSR 5 suppressor. This test was conducted using the Bruel & Kjaer Pulse, lab grade sound meter. Griffin Armament® is an independent manufacturer that is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Allen Engineering™. The demonstration of the AEM 5 is merely used for comparisons of the Griffin Armament DUAL-LOK™ PSR™ 5 suppressor. The PRI rifle was used with the AEM5 as the AEM5 has a very specific two piece mounting system and cannot be interfaced to standard barrels. The PRI gun was PRI built and is the best embodiment of the platform to showcase the AEM5 on since it was used in the SOPMOD package for the MK12 MODH. This means we can collect real-time data from the 1m Left of Muzzle position as well as the shooter's left and right ears.
