In life, as in art, bringing new life to objects that we have used extensively and loved, helps the life of that object to be reinvented. This ship is made from three, 88 key piano keyboards... Ivory. At around 150 years of age, this ivory, sadly taken from elephants, has become a piece of treasured art. I feel that this pays more respect to the animals than burning the piano keys or throwing them away would, it would be lives completely wasted.

In constructing Charles Darwin's "Beagle, I used countless antique embroidery needles, for the blocks and masts. One thousand, four hundred and twenty holes were drilled with a tiny hand drill. This ship, which took 9 months from start to finish, measures an impressive 36x24x9 inches.

My final word is to say thank you and sorry to the Elephants who lost their lives all those years ago.

The Beagle sailed from Plymouth Sound on 27th December 1831 under the command of Captain Robert FitzRoy. While the expedition was originally planned to last two years, it lasted almost five—Beagle did not return until 2 October 1836. Darwin spent most of this time exploring on land (three years and three months on land; 18 months at sea). The book is a vivid travel memoir as well as a detailed scientific field journal covering biology, geology, and anthropology that demonstrates Darwin's keen powers of observation, written at a time when Western Europeans were exploring and charting the whole world.

On his return, he wrote the book based on these notes, at a time when he was first developing his theories of evolution through common descent and natural selection.
