During the Nine months of active Chemotherapy and Radiation, I required a total of 55 units of Blood Products to keep my body functioning. There were multiple instances where there was less than an hour of time that I was able to sustain life function withput the replenishment of blood product cells.

You must understand how crucial human blood is.
Blood and plasma transfusions are incredibly life-sustaining and life-saving for anemia patients, particularly in cases of severe or acute anemia where the body's ability to carry oxygen to vital organs is compromised. Here's why:

1. Immediate Oxygen Delivery: Red blood cells (RBCs) are responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout the body. In anemia, there's a deficiency of RBCs or hemoglobin, resulting in decreased oxygen delivery. Blood transfusions provide an immediate supply of healthy RBCs, ensuring vital organs receive the oxygen they need to function properly.

2. Increased Hemoglobin Levels: Plasma transfusions can also be beneficial for anemia patients, as they contain proteins, electrolytes, and clotting factors that support overall blood health. Plasma transfusions can help increase hemoglobin levels and improve blood viscosity, enhancing oxygen-carrying capacity.

3. Stabilization of Vital Signs: Severe anemia can lead to symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, shortness of breath, and even organ failure. Blood transfusions can rapidly alleviate these symptoms by restoring hemoglobin levels and stabilizing vital signs, ultimately preventing life-threatening complications.

4. Treatment of Underlying Causes: While transfusions provide immediate relief, they also buy time for healthcare providers to address the underlying causes of anemia, whether it be chronic disease, blood loss, or nutritional deficiencies. By treating the root cause, patients can achieve long-term improvement in their condition.

Overall, blood and plasma transfusions play a crucial role in managing anemia and can be life-saving for patients experiencing severe symptoms or complications. They provide immediate relief, stabilize vital signs, and buy valuable time for further treatment and recovery.
