Who Broke the Lock on the Hen House Door. This is a traditional American Folk Song. A funny song. I play it on the mountain banjo in the clawhammer style. It might sound like a typewriter the way I play it because I use my index and middle fingers which is kind of different than most I guess.

Anyway check out Ryan Spearman of Play Better Banjo playing this song. He gives banjo lessons and is a great songwriter and brilliant banjo player and singer. Here is the link to him playing this song. Listen to the intricacies of his banjo playing genius. Amazing.

Who Broke The Lock On The Hens House Door - lyrics

I rode right up to that farmers gate
Blew my horn both long and late
The farmers dog he wouldnt bark nor bite
But the dammed old thing he could read and write

Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door

Said the barnyard hen to rooster out west
You`re the one that I love you best
Rooster to the hen, you`re a pop-eyed liar
I caught you in the alley with a ole shanghai

Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door

I was down in the hen house on my knees
I thought I heard a chicken sneeze
It was nothing but a rooster saying his prayers
Thanking the Lord for the hens upstairs

Who broke the lock? I don't know
Who broke the lock on the hen house door?
I'll find out before I go
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
Who broke the lock on the hen house door
