Declaring God’s Authority: The Declaration of Independence

This is Memorial Day weekend. A time we remember those who died for our freedom. Once America is no longer willing
to die for freedom, we will lose it. Freedom isn’t free. It cost the blood of Jesus and those willing to keep it; our military,
police, and first responders. The document that declared our freedom from Great Britain was the Declaration of
Independence. It was signed July 4 th 1776 and sent to King George III.
The Declaration of Independence is a written decree. This was signed by 39 delegates; men with authority. They had the
authority to sign, but the “power” to carry it out came from those willing to fight, even give their lives. The more people
willing to fight and the more zealous those people are, the greater the power. Since their reliance was upon the
protection of God, I believe it was the zeal of the Lord of Hosts who motivated and empowered the people. Decrees
need authority to be initiated and power to be enforced. Decrees and declarations are very similar and are an important
aspect as to how governments operate. God is in control of all governments, and we partner with God.
Isa 9:6-7 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name
will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His
government and peace There will be no end. Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it
with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Decrees are very common in the Bible
Ezra 5:13 However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to build this house of God.
Ezra 6:1 Then King Darius issued a decree, and a search was made in the archives, where the treasures were stored in
Babylon.
Ezra 7:21 And I, even I, Artaxerxes the king, issue a decree to all the treasurers who are in the region beyond the River,
Est 8:7-8 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, "Indeed, I have given Esther the house of
Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he tried to lay his hand on the Jews. 8 You yourselves write a
decree concerning the Jews, as you please, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's signet ring; for whatever is
written in the king's name and sealed with the king's signet ring no one can revoke."
Unrighteous decrees
Isa 10:1-2 "Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, Who write misfortune, Which they have prescribed 2 To rob
the needy of justice, And to take what is right from the poor of My people, That widows may be their prey, And that they
may rob the fatherless.
The Lord God made a decree to Jesus
Ps 2:7-11 "I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. 8 Ask of Me,
and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them
with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'" 10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed,
you judges of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
Jesus gave us this same authority
Rev 2:26-28 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations — 27
'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter's vessels' — as I also have received
from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.
The Declaration of Independence declared God’s authority 4 times!
In order for a decree to have power, it has to be issued by a legal authority. The legal authority in the Declaration came
from God and men in positions of authority in their communities. Our Founding Fathers assembled together, wrote
down their concerns about King George III being a tyrannical despot imposing unjust laws which violated the laws of
God. They declared God’s authority four times as their source.

1. God of Nature
2. Creator of mankind, giver of our unalienable rights
3. Supreme Judge of the World
4. Divine Providence (God’s divine governments)
The Original Intent of the Declaration of Independence was to declare God’s authority into our Civil Government, and
our way of life, thus breaking the bonds of tyranny from Great Britain. The Church is to be involved in Government.
First, they declared God’s authority as the God of this earth, and of our physical/natural realm.
“…and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of
Nature’s God entitle them…” People have the right to protect themselves and their families.
Second, they declared God’s authority as man’s Creator and the source of our Rights.
“All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.”
Third, they declared God’s authority as the Supreme Judge of the world as to their source of righteousness (rectitude)
as they honor the Authority of the good people they protect.
“…Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by
Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare…”
Forth, they declared God’s authority in their protection, as His divine Providence (government) will prevail. The last
words written down, were their pledge/commitment to one another.
“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge
to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
Summary of God’s authority-governments: God created everything and gave us rights as humans. He created the
governments to protect those rights. He is the Supreme Judge of the world to which we can appeal knowing our
intentions are righteous. God protects those who stand in His righteous governments.
Ps 55:22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
The righteousness of His governments before America was born
The Declaration of Independence was based on the Magna Carta and the doctrine to the lesser magistrates.
Magna Carta Leaders interpose for their people. They stand in between the unjust laws, defying the tyrants and
protecting the people. They choose to obey God’s laws/authority, over man’s unjust laws. This will bring people to make
a decision; obey this corrupt Babylonian system, or obey the laws of God?
In his book “The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates” Matthew Trewhella explains about this doctrine and how it relates
to the Magna Carta. The doctrine of the lesser magistrates has been in existence for hundreds of years. The doctrine of
the lesser magistrates was formalized in the Magna Carta. In the year 1215, Christian nobles stood on the field of
Runnymede, England to defy King John’s tyranny towards the people. It was their combined efforts that forced the King
to sign the document which gave the people of England their rights.
The Marxist-Socialist hate God. They know the only thing that will stop them is the authority of God being released by
and through His people. That is why they try so hard to convince everyone God does not belong in our government, our
schools, our culture and our way of life. If we agree with them, we let go of God’s authority and darkness reigns. God put
His authority into our Constitution.
The year is 2022 and we are at a point in history where our actions will determine who will rule: the elite through
communistic control, or We The People through our Constitutional Republic? The darkness or the light? Deception or
the Truth? This is our decree: The Truth Will Prevail! (Jn 8:31-33 Matt 10:26)
